LEARN TORAH, LIVE TORAH, PASS IT ON WITH LOVE
Welcome to the Religious School at Ohavay Zion Synagogue! Our program strives to create a warm, nurturing, fun and intimate learning community in which our children grow in their knowledge of Judaism and develop a strong, positive Jewish identity.
Our school meets on Sundays for students beginning at the age of 4 through high school years. Our teachers are committed to fostering the spiritual, social, and academic growth of all our students. We also have an outstanding Hebrew program on Tuesday afternoons and Sunday mornings, with additional classes for Dalet (6th grade) and B’Nai Mitzvah (7th grade) on Thursday afternoons. With regular attendance at our warm and spirited services, our students become proficient in reading and understanding Hebrew prayers, and become fully participatory in evening and morning Shabbat services.
At OZS, we hold a strong belief that a child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah is just the beginning of his/her Jewish education. With that in mind, we continue programming with the Midrasha class (8th-10th grades), which meets on Sunday mornings, and the Jewish College Prep class for 10th –12th grades, which meets with the rabbi monthly. In addition to attending classes, most of our middle and high school students come back to Religious School or Hebrew School to become Madrichim (teacher’s aides).
It is our mission at the OZS Religious School to help our students wear their Jewish identity comfortably, both in Kentucky and around the world. Our goal is to foster in our students a love of Jewish learning that will continue throughout their lives.
The education program at OZS is proud to be affiliated with the Institute of Southern Jewish Life, and benefits greatly from their extensive resources and curricular materials.
