Rabbi’s Message
WELCOME MESSAGE

Rabbi Moshe Smolkin
At Ohavay Zion Synagogue we strive to bring people together to create a caring community. All are welcome and there is something awesome for everyone:
For preschoolers, Gan Shalom is the place to be. Surrounded by wonderful teachers and a warm supportive environment, our preschool is a caring and nurturing home away from home.
For children, our Kids Shabbat and Junior Congregation services are fun and engaging. We join together in song, schmoozing, and noshing. And in our religious and Hebrew school programs, we learn together as we explore the traditions, languages, history and arts of Judaism.
For young adults, our Midrashah program gives adolescents the chance to delve into Jewish culture: from comedy to art and beyond. And our Jewish College Prep program provides more senior students with the opportunity to grapple with Judaism on a mature and sophisticated level.
For young professionals, we offer a variety of social programming, including our dynamic Young Professionals Shabbat. We dine, discuss, and daven together.
For adults of all ages, we invite you to hang out at social events, engage in adult education classes, enjoy movie night, sing and tell stories at Tishes, browse the library, mark life cycle events, and join together in prayer.
OZS is a wonderful community where opportunities abound. Come join us!
CLASSES
The Writings of the Bible (Wednesdays Midday:12:00 – 1:00 pm) The Hebrew Bible is comprised of the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings. In this class, we will explore this final section of the Bible: The poetry of the Psalms, the misery of Job, the sensuality of Song of Songs, the musings of Ecclesiastes, the loyalty of Ruth, the adventures of Daniel, and others.
Please bring a Bible with English translation to class and a dairy lunch if desired.
Jewish Short Stories – At Noon on scheduled Thursdays. Please check the calendar and Weekly News page for dates.
Jewish Short Stories is a refreshing new program for the seniors of our community. Join us as we munch on lunch, and read and discuss a short story together.
